Protect Your Knees: Bad Knees Ruin the Fun
Over the last few years, I’ve made it a point to be more active in my life. Turning 50 had a lot to do with that. I found myself on a journey of self-discovery when I turned 50, not knowing where to go or who to turn to. Age sent me spiraling in a way I hadn’t ever witnessed before—not because of the getting older aspect, but more of what to expect.

People are aging every day, but no one really knows
what the aging process will look like for them. Let’s
face it: aging is a process not too many people are
willing to talk about. We all would want to believe
that somehow it would skip us and no one would be
the wiser, as if we were able to walk around like
ageless vampires (if only, lol). The truth of the matter is it’s happening whether we like it or not.
Women Are Living Longer and Healthier
Research shows that women are living longer and are healthier than ever before. One of the things I believe that helps with this is having the ability to move one’s body. Think about it: everything we do in life requires movement—something we barely think about due to the microwave life most people are living nowadays, being overworked, not to mention the gift of having the world at our fingertips. Anything that could be dreamed up with a single click can be delivered to your home, which has left millions of people with diminished self-awareness. Body movement has become a chore rather than an opportunity to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Let’s face it: maintaining your mobility is a key factor in maintaining your ability to stay and appear youthful—something I’ve come to appreciate and thank God for. Even more important is having the right tools to aid you on your health journey.
My Knee Journey
I don’t know about you, but my knees are not giving 25 anymore (lol). I was confronted with this sobering fact when I started running again. I remember a time when I was out running at 4am in Prospect Park in New York City. If you’ve ever had the privilege of running in Prospect Park, you’re well aware of the type of energy there that has people from all over the world waking up early to share in this energy—it’s magical! Unfortunately, my running career ended before it even started due to what is now called runner’s knee, something I didn’t even know at the time had a name (lol).
Twenty years later, I’m confronted with similar pains with, of course, the added pleasure of a touch of arthritis—oh how lovely aging is! The good news is I’m way more educated than the 30-year-old me. See, there are some perks (lol).
The Game Changer: Knee Pads
Creating your own toolkit when it comes to working out is something every silver-haired girly needs, and I have just the thing to add to your workout: knee pads. Ladies, this has been a game changer! Not only am I sprinting like a 25-year-old (okay, maybe not a 25-year-old, but you get the idea), my workouts are way more enjoyable these days. No more worrying about my knees and having to stop every time I feel the strain on my knees. I forgot how much I loved to run, and wearing knee pads allows me to do what I love, allowing me the ability to get way more out of my workout—and that’s what we want, right?
You can find a range of shapes and colors, so you’ll look great no matter what you choose. So the next time you go to the gym, be sure to have your hidden secret in your gym bag.
Hugs,
Elizabeth
