Reclaiming Your Inner Goddess in Your Silver Years 🌸

Reclaiming Your Inner Goddess in Your Silver Years 🌸

This week I wanted to share a couple of things that I’ve been loving for the last cauple of month.  Now that I’m in my 50s, I’ve come to realize there are certain things that I no longer really turn to when it comes to fashion. Short shorts or short skirts haven’t been my vibe pretty much, for the most part at least (lol)—not because of age.

This winter  I’m looking forward to implementing more dresses and pencil skirts. Pencil skirts are so sexy; I love how they hug the hips and show off a woman’s shape, especially if you’re more of a pear shape like myself. It’s amazing how they look on the body. I’m 5’8″, so a pencil skirt has always been flattering on me. It’s an oldie but goodie. When I was working a physical job, I would wear these types of skirts most of the time.

Pre-Loved Fashion Finds 💎

Can we talk about pre-loved items? Fall is the perfect time to incorporate a trench coat. Thrift stores or eBay allow you to invest in a quality trench coat if you weren’t ready to drop major coin on one. The particular version I got was from eBay—it’s lined and oh so warm, not to mention chic. If I choose, the liner can come off. I was in the market for a trench coat and boom—there it was. I wasn’t ready to spend a lot of money and wanted something that was made well. When you’re a tall girly like myself (5’8″ to be exact), quality is very important (lol). Pre-loved are wins for me; ore Is it just me?

Love the Skin You’re In: Self-Love & Skincare ✨

When you’re in your mid-40s, 50s, 60s, you want to bring out the undertones in your skin. As you age, the skin tends to be a little dull. Bringing out those undertones can help bring forth the warmth back to the skin, which brings me to my next point—skincare.

Making sure to get enough sunlight helps with accumulating and retaining vitamin D. Of course, wear sunscreen! Going out in nature, enjoying the sensation of the sun, being outdoors in general helps—especially if you live in the northern hemisphere where getting enough sunlight is always an issue. As soon as the sun comes out, we are running outside (lol).

I am looking forward to the leaves changing colors—man, what a sight! Nature is healing for the soul, so make it a point to get outside. If you want to turn back the hand of time, allow nature to heal you. Going for walks has been known to build million-dollar businesses, just saying—thank me later. Not to mention, it heals the nervous system.

Head Wraps & Turbans: Elevated Style 👑

I love a good turban. Last fall, this has been the center of my personal style—it’s warm, it’s chic, it’s a simple yet elevated way to add some spice to any outfit. I’ve written a whole article about it, so be sure to check it out.

If you’re not into turbans, a head wrap may be just the thing for you. Head wraps come in so many colors—this is an easy way to turn a bad hair day into a chic style, especially as an African-American woman when our hair may be in between styles. Head wraps allow for versatility. I’ve invested in a whole bunch of head wraps. Whenever I adorn my hair, whether I put a head wrap or a turban or any other accessory, my style feels elevated. Knowing that my hair is protected is a yummy feeling inside!

Protecting your hair from the elements is a must if you want to maintain healthy, thriving hair, especially when your grays are coming in, which can leave your hair feeling brittle and dry. Kinky curly hair tends to attract everything under the sun, just saying. So you want to protect the hair you’ve worked so hard to maintain. Deep conditioning, moisturizing, doing all the things helps as well. This fall is the season of the head wraps, girl!

The Magic Duo: Shea Butter & Black Soap 🌟

Last but not least, skincare. Okay, now what I’m about to share is probably something you already have in your repertoire or are already familiar with: Shea butter. Okay, hear me out! Shea butter hands down has been a lifesaver. Let me tell you something—Shea butter and Black soap has been a game changer for me, especially in these cooler months. Not only has it brought back moisture to my skin, it also helps with evening out my complexion. I call it the magic duo, okay!

I cannot tell you the miracles, the voodoo this combination has done for my skin. I haven’t used black soap, to be honest, in a very long time—years even. Shame on me. My skin, I felt, started looking a little dull, which I believe menopause had a lot to do with. Let’s face it, age changes the skin. I’m in my 50s now, so I can’t expect my skin to look like it did when I was in my 20s. The good news is—I can do the work, if you know what I mean.

When you look your best, you feel your best. Your makeup isn’t going to look good if your skin isn’t healthy, and that’s a fact. Clinique is a good option as well due to it being hypoallergenic. Clinique also caters to various skin types. Do your research—there are slews of other brands that can help you on your skin journey.

Conclusion 💜

These are some of the things I believe will help you to feel not only good in your body this fall season but also good in the skin you’re in. Be sure to subscribe to my vlog channel as well as subscribe to my email list.

Okay, stay blessed, stay in peace, and stay empowered. Peace. 💜

THE END!

Peace, Love and Blessings Lovelies Xoxo.
