It’s Right in Front of You—Use It! 🦸♀️
Every day, I do my best to look back and reflect on what worked and what felt like a struggle. This past week, I took a huge step forward—one that has the power to change life as I know it.
But here’s the thing: instead of feeling over-the-moon excited, I’ve been moving in slow motion. And honestly? That’s funny to me, given the gravity of the move I just made.
It got me thinking: Why do people often feel a different emotion than expected when they finally achieve a goal?
The Shift After the Pursuit 🎯
Here’s what I believe: once a goal is achieved—any goal—the shift happens. The energy of pursuing transforms into something else entirely.
I’d compare this to a crush. Think about it.
Remember that crush you had back in school? All you could talk about, think about, dream about was them. You hoped one day to be noticed in a way that would let you express your true emotions.
Then one day—that faithful day—you get the response you’ve been waiting for.
And suddenly, those emotions aren’t as hidden as they were before. You realize the feeling is mutual. And as kids, we saw just how fickle we could be once the chase was over.
Well, achieving a goal is kind of the same thing—except without the falling out of love part.
Because I am excited. It’s just… well, I’m still the same person I was before the accomplishment. Only now, I come with a bigger responsibility.
The Red Cape You’ve Been Waiting For 🦸♀️
I believe most people think that once they accomplish the thing—whether it’s getting married, starting a business, buying a house, or moving across the country—they’ll become an entirely new person.
But when they finally achieve it, they discover they’re still the same person. Just with a different title.
This can leave people feeling a bit sad, confused, or even let down.
What I’ve learned is this: it’s a ripple effect.
Somewhere along the line of pursuing your goal, you create an avatar of yourself. You imagine who you’ll be once you “make it.”
Somewhere along the line, I thought a red cape would be waiting for me once I achieved a big goal.
And the funny thing? It was. It just didn’t look the way I thought it would.
Many of us are still waiting for that red cape to appear—whether it’s:
- The “Mother of the Year” award for raising a whole human being and sending them off to college
- Purchasing your first home
- Leaving a job you worked at for 2-3 decades to finally pursue your lifelong dream of traveling the world in a minivan
Whatever your thing is, you believe the red cape will magically appear once you cross the finish line.
But here’s the truth:
You always had the red cape. That’s how you were able to accomplish the thing in the first place.
You’ve Always Been the Hero 💪
Why? Because:
- It takes courage to leave your job and start a business.
- It takes courage to send your baby off to college.
- It takes courage not to give up when things get hard.
So the next time you find yourself searching for that red cape, remember:
It’s already on your back.
You’ve been wearing it all along. You just didn’t see it because you were too busy chasing the goal.
But now? Now it’s time to own it. To step into the fullness of who you’ve always been. To live like the hero you are.
Philippians 4:13 (NIV) – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
You are powerful. You are brave. And you’ve always had everything you needed inside you.
